Frisco Highline Run for Scouting Half Marathon & 5K

The highline run began in 2004 as the Frisco Highline run for scouting. Mr. John Q. Hammons donated the space at the Marriott hotel for the first six races. The race headquarters was transfered to the CNH Reman building just beyond the trailhead, quite close the Marriott. Mr. Jack Stack, President of Springfield Manufacturing, donated his excellent location for the race. Tradition is that the run feature a grand marshal. Many famous marshals have attended including Mr. Hammons, Olympian Jason Pyrah, world mile record holder Jim Ryun, and Olympic cyclist & runner John Howard.

The race is always run on the last Saturday in March, and is the first major run of the season. The course is historic, scenic, paved, flat, and fast. The small section north of Willard, MO is still unpaved with hard packed gravel. The course is heavily treed protecting from sun and wind. Many runners have set their personal records (PR) here.

In the 1800s, two rail lines ran from Kansas City south towards Springfield. The lowline traversed the swampy area around Clinton, MO. The highline traversed a more easterly route. Due to annual flooding, the lowline was abandoned but the highline persisted for many years. It is now a rails to trails project passing through a beautiful part of the Missouri Ozarks. The highline run is out in back on this trail. An original frisco engine horn from the frisco museum is used for the start and to announce the finishers.

19th Steak & Steak Dinner and Charity Auctionm

Mercy Springfield presents the 19th Annual Steak & Steak Dinner and Charity Auction. This event is the largest annual fund-raising event for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield. Guests will enjoy a delicious dinner – sharing their table with friends and family. This year, they are proud to have former Quarterback Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers, as the featured speaker.

The dinner will raise critical funding to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield and more than 3,000 registered members served each year. Many of these young people come from disadvantaged circumstances and look to the Club as an important stabilizing force in their lives. The Steak & Steak Dinner helps bridge the gap between the $30 fee Club members pay each semester and the more than $1,000 it costs to provide programs to them.

Dinner History: The first Steak & Burger Dinner was held in 1997. Last year’s Steak & Steak Dinner and Charity Auction raised more than $200,000. More than 1,000 people enjoyed dinner and guest speaker Rick Pitino. Guest speakers from past years include: Nick Saban, Tony La Russa, Lance Armstrong, Drew Brees, Roy Williams, Bob Gibson, Coach Bob Knight, Tony Gonzales, Dick Vitale, Bill Russell, Mike Ditka, Dick Vermeil, Johnny Bench, Archie and Peyton Manning and Jackie Joyner Kersee.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield is to provide programs that guide and direct youth from all backgrounds, with a special concern for those from at-risk circumstances. Through social, physical, and educational development activities, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield teaches youth the values of life, strengthens their self-esteem, and makes them better citizens of our community.

2015 Rock4Kids Running Series: Paint the Run - Bass Pro Outdoor Fitness Festival

The more that kids walk, run, ride their bikes or take part in any physical activity, the more the message of health and wellness is integrated into our community.

Kids in the Springfield area may take part in the Rock4Kids program by counting the times that they exercise, read a book and do the right thing (i.e., perform an act of kindness, volunteer, etc.). We are using the marathon distance as a concept for points. Kids will track 25 points over a period of time and complete the marathon concept by choosing a distance to walk or run in one of our events. They can turn their tracking sheets in on the morning of the Zombie Run. They do not have to complete the tracking forms to participate.

Registration for this event will close at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, April 23. We will reopen limited entry late registration at a slightly higher fee than regular registration costs during packet pick up on Friday, April 24, allowing for in person, paper registrations as long as we have spots available. We will not be offering onsite registration the day of the event.

All registered participants for Paint the Run will be given a specially designed t-shirt and medal to commemorate the event! Come celebrate Spring with us by enjoying a fun and healthy activity while being painted wonderful colors of the world!

Race Distances: .25 miles, .50 miles, 1 mile, 1.5 miles; participants can choose their distances based on their age and skill level
