2nd Annual SGF Urban-Warrior Challenge is April 6
Registration is open now for the 2nd Annual Springfield Urban-Warrior Challenge. The 12.4K obstacle course will benefit the MSU Army ROTC Bear Battalion and the National Military Family Association.
WHAT: The Springfield Urban-Warrior Challenge (S.U.C.) is a 12.4K timed obstacle race. Designed by perhaps the most qualified group to create challenging obstacles—the Missouri State University (MSU) Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)—the S.U.C. will benefit the MSU Army ROTC Bear Battalion and the National Military Family Association. With participants running through the heart of the city around iconic landmarks, this race is created to challenge endurance, speed, agility, and the will to keep moving forward.
WHEN: Race start time is Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. Participants can register as an individual or with a team of four people. Costs range from $75-$105 for individual registration; $275-$350 for teams. The last day to register online is April 4. Participants can also register from 12-5 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the entrance to Plaster Sports Complex on Grand Street or 7-8 a.m. the day of the event at Hammons Field.
WHERE: The S.U.C. obstacle race will start and finish at Hammons Field. The course map for the full 12.4K route can be found at embracethesuc.com.
WHY: This challenge is different from other obstacle races because it will again take place in the urban environment of downtown Springfield, with new challenging obstacles that won’t be revealed until race day. Obstacles from 2013 included running, crawling, climbing, and distractions such as water and smoke. Plus there will be first, second and third place winners in each age category and overall male/female and team winners.
WHO: Interested participants can find out more and register at embracethesuc.com. Discounts are given for active or retired military, police and firefighters, and MSU students.
Volunteers will receive an official S.U.C. t-shirt as well as breakfast before the race. Those interested in volunteering should firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are also a variety of ways to sponsor, from naming customized obstacles, to cash donations, to donations in kind. For sponsorship opportunities, email email@example.com.
